= Arundinella robusta E.Fourn. (1886: 54) . Lectotype (designated here):— MEXICO. Veracruz: in valle Cordovensi, 1865, Bourgeau 1660 (lectotype MPU024257!, isolectotype G00099288!, MO100888!, US00156904!).

Notes:— In the protologue of A. deppeana ( Steudel, 1855 (1854)), the locality of Misantla , Veracruz, Mexico, is mentioned, and no other information, such as collector or herbarium where it was deposited, is indicated. Various authors have attributed the type to Ferdinand Deppe (e.g., Davidse, 2003), a German naturalist who collected plants in various locations in Veracruz between 1828 and 1829, together with Christian Julius Schiede (Streseman, 1954). His collections were sold to several European herbaria after 1829. Sánchez-Ken (2020) mentions that there is a specimen in the Paris herbarium (P-01863650!) that was collected in Misantla by Schiede. This author also indicates that it is likely this specimen is the type of A. deppeana , where for reasons unbeknownst, Deppe’s name was not included on the label. However, at this moment there is not enough evidence to know unequivocally if the mentioned specimen is type material. Therefore, a lectotype of the name A. deppeana is not designated herein.

Three synonyms are recognized for A. deppeana : A. auletica , A. latifolia and A. robusta . All of them were described by the French botanist Eugène Fournier in the second volume of Mexicanas Plantas (1886), dedicated to the grasses. For A. auletica eleven syntypes are cited, from which the specimen Galeotti 5679 at K is chosen as lectotype because it is the most complete. For A. robusta six syntypes are cited, from which only the series of Bourgeau 1660 could be localized and the specimen at MPU is chosen as lectotype. Finally, for A. latifolia , only the specimen Bourgeau 1660 bis is cited, and the herbarium where it was deposited is not indicated. The specimen at P is chosen as lectoype.
