scientific name

Gambrinus LeConte, 1853
status

Gambrinus LeConte, 1853 .

Species in this genus were formerly placed in Limonius ( Etzler 2019) . We follow species concepts of Lane (1971) where they differ from those of Al Dhafer (2009), based on examinations of types and our own dissections. The status of Gambrinus ursinus (Van Dyke) as an economically important species in Montana is unclear, but based on limited knowledge of the genus, is unlikely. Species of Gambrinus are typically associated with forest biomes, and the few studied larvae are associated with secondary organic fill of hollow trees ( Whitehead 2003), suggesting that damage to field crops is unlikely.
