The species that comprise this genus can only be identified using male genitalia ( Brown 1934). In Montana, species belong to three of the five species groups identified by Brown (1934). Montana also has aspects of the Eastern, British Columbian, and Californian faunas identified by Brown (1934). Due to the large number of specimens and necessity of genitalia dissections for accurate species determination, the majority of recently collected specimens were only identified to genus level. The distribution of these specimens, as well as unassociated females, are depicted in Fig. 10 View Fig and serve to highlight the distribution of the genus within the state. While sometimes reported as economically important in the literature, none of the Montana species appear to be.
