Leptognathia profunda Hansen, 1913 View in CoL
Leptognathia profunda: Hansen, 1913: 99 View in CoL –100; plate X figure 1a–h.
Remarks. This species was known only as three specimens from the type locality, ‘Ingolf’ Stn 22, southwest of Cape Farewell, 3376 m. Another probable specimen of L. profunda has now been obtained from BIOICE Stn 2717, in the Irminger Basin at 255 m. Examination of this nonovigerous female (and one of the types) shows it to have the following characters: cheliped propodus with lateral fold; fixed finger with one ventral seta and several high teeth on the incisive margin, the most distal being bifid, behind which the dactylus fits (on type specimen); labrum large and conical, not laterally compressed; maxilliped palp article3 with three plumose setae; pereopods 4–6 with three spiniform carpal setae; pleopods present; uropod endopod 2articled.
This suite of characters, together with the general shape, or habitus, suggests that L. profunda actually belongs to the genus Anarthrurella gen. nov. As further study is required (on limited material), and the zoogeography falls outside the scope of this paper, publication of the status of this species will occur elsewhere.
