COMMENTS: Chapman gave the AMNH number of the holotype in the original description and the correct data relating to that specimen. Unfortunately , the type label was tied on the wrong specimen ( AMNH 168238 View Materials , with different data). An AMNH type label has been added to the holotype ; the specimen with the incorrect type label, a paratype, remains in the type collection with a label explaining the problem because it has for so many years been accepted as the type. Chapman (1923b: 277) listed 45 specimens examined, including the type but omitting two unsexed specimens that would have been available to him when nigrifrons was described. There are thus 46 paratypes: Ecuador, Alamor, AMNH 168237–168242 View Materials , 172534-172537 View Materials , six males and four females ; Guaniche , AMNH 172538–172540 View Materials , two males, one unsexed specimen ; Guachanoma´ , AMNH 168243 View Materials , one male ; Cebollal , AMNH 172541 View Materials , one male ; Las Piñas , AMNH 172532 View Materials , one male ; La Puente , AMNH 172546 View Materials , one male ; Punte Santa Ana , AMNH 168252– 168254 View Materials , three females ; Loja, AMNH 130361 View Materials , 130362 View Materials , two males ; Salvias , AMNH 168250 View Materials , 168251 View Materials , two females ; Portovelo , AMNH 168244–168249 View Materials , 172542–172545 View Materials , six males, three females, one male ?; Zaruma, AMNH 130357–130360 View Materials , 130363 View Materials , two males, one immature male, two females. Peru: Palambla , AMNH 175702–175708 View Materials , six males, one sex?. Of these paratypes, the following have been exchanged: AMNH 130358 View Materials , 168240 View Materials , 172534 View Materials , and 172536 to MCZ in July 1928 ; AMNH 168244 View Materials and 168248 to ANSP in July 1928 ; and AMNH 172540 View Materials to MECN in July 1984 .
