Hemithraupis flavicollis aurigularis Cherrie View in CoL
Hemithraupis flavicollis aurigularis Cherrie, 1916b: 389 View in CoL (Suapure, Venezuela).
Now Hemithraupis flavicollis aurigularis Cherrie, 1916 View in CoL . See Hellmayr, 1936: 382–383, Isler and Isler, 1999: 93–95, and Dickinson, 2003: 815.
HOLOTYPE: AMNH 75922 About AMNH , adult male, collected at Suapure , 07.14N, 65.10W ( Paynter, 1982), lower Rio Caura, Bolívar, Venezuela, on 9 September 1901, by S.M. Klages. GoogleMaps
COMMENTS: Cherrie cited the AMNH number of the holotype in the original description and described both males and females without saying how many specimens he examined but noted that in addition to the Suapure specimens, he had a specimen of his new form from the Cunucunuma River , also in AMNH. He included in aurigularis Caura River specimens in the Rothschild Collection that had been reported on by Hellmayr (1907b: 351). Those specimens are now in AMNH. Paratypes, all from Venezuela, are: Suapure, AMNH 75661 About AMNH , male, 20 November 1900 ; AMNH 75662 About AMNH , female, 9 February 1901 ; AMNH 75923 About AMNH , one male?, 9 September 1901, by S.M. Klages. Boca de Sina, Cunucunuma River, Upper Orinoco , AMNH 121209 About AMNH , male, 19 March 1913, by Miller and Iglseder. Suapure, AMNH 511178 About AMNH , female, 29 April 1899 ; AMNH 511179 About AMNH , female, 12 October 1900 ; AMNH 511180 About AMNH , male, 11 April 1900 ; AMNH 511181 About AMNH , male, 12 April 1899 ; AMNH 511182 About AMNH , male, 29 April 1899, (by Klages). Nicare, Caura River , AMNH 511183 About AMNH , male, AMNH 511184 About AMNH , male, AMNH 511185 About AMNH , ‘‘female’’ [male plumage], all 22 January 1901, by E. Andre´ .
Hellmayr (1907b: 351), working in the Rothschild Collection, had given measurements for two females and five males, and had probably omitted the specimen sexed as a female but in male plumage. Berlepsch and Hartert (1902: 22), in their report on Orinoco birds, listed the specimens collected by Klages and by Andre´; a fourth male specimen collected by André was evidently exchanged away by Rothschild before Hellmayr studied these birds.
