Triarius tropicus Weise 1921: 85
Diabrotica tropicus: Smith and Lawrence 1967: 135 (not Diabrotica tropica Weise, 1916 )
This Brazilian species was originally named Triarius tropicus Weise, 1921 . Later, Smith and Lawrence (1967) transferred it to the genus Diabrotica . However, in so doing, they created a secondary homonym with Diabrotica tropica Weise, 1916 . The fact that the 1916 species is now placed in Paratriarius Schaeffer does not diminish the homonymy, as the original combination was in Diabrotica . We here propose Diabrotica neotropica as a replacement name for Triarius tropicus Weise, 1921 .
