Type Locality: "L'ile Decrès" [ Australia, South Australia, Kangaroo Isl].
Vernacular Names: Australian Sealion.
Synonyms: Neophoca albicollis (Péron 1816) ; Neophoca australis (Quoy and Gaimard 1830) ; Neophoca fosteri (Wood Jones 1922) ; Neophoca lobatus (J. E. Gray 1828) ; Neophoca stelleri (Temminck 1844) ; Neophoca williamsi (McCoy 1877) .
Distribution: Australia coastal regions (Houtmans Abrolhos in the west to Kangaroo Isl in the south).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Allen (1880) questioned the validity of the type description. Reviewed by Ling (1992). Synonyms allocated according to Ling (1992).
