4. Comolia leptophylla (Bonpl.) Naudin (1850a: 27) View in CoL . ≡ Rhexia leptophylla Bonpl. (in Humboldt & Bonpland 1812: 64, pl. 24). ≡ Tricentrum leptophyllum (Bonpl.) De Candolle (1828: 123) . Type:—[ VENEZUELA]. ad Orenocum in umbrosis, jux ta vicum Maypure [in protologue], s.d., A.J.A. Bonpland s.n. (holotype: P! [P00136388]).
Notes:— When describing Rhexia leptophylla, Humboldt & Bonpland (1812) indicated only the type location, but not the original material. When searching for the original material with that name, we found A. J. A. Bonpland s.n., at P ( P 00136388), where the collections examined by the authors of the species were found ( Humboldt & Bonpland 1823, see Preface), with the same location indicated in the protologue ( Humboldt & Bonpland 1812). Additionally, only this collection was analyzed in treatments after Rhexia leptophylla was published (e.g., De Candolle 1828; Naudin 1850a; Cogniaux 1885). Thus, we conclude that A. J. A. Bonpland s.n. ( P 00136388) is the holotype of Rhexia leptophylla . In addition, this sheet match perfectly with the illustration of the protologue. No duplicates were found for this collection.
