Type (designated here):― [ SOUTH AFRICA]. Promont. Bonae Spei [Cape of Good Hope]: Thunberg s.n. (lectotype S 07-809!; isolectotypes S 07-808! ; S 07-810! ; S-G-7074!) .

Notes: ―This is the type of the genus Caroxylon , considered a taxonomic synonym ( Botschantzev 1974a: 604; Setshogo 2005; Germishuizen et al. 2006; Klopper et al. 2006) of Salsola aphylla (reclassified by Tzvelev 1993 as Caroxylon aphyllum ).

Distribution: ―South Africa (WC): probably southern Namaqualand.
