Type:―AFRICA AUSTRALIS [ SOUTH AFRICA]. Terra capensis, regio occidentalis [Western Cape Prov.]: Van Rhynsdorp , 400 ft, 11 July 1896, Schlechter 8091 (holotype LE-00011850 ! ; isotypes GRA-0000899-0 ! , K-000243993 ! , PRE-0375530-0 ! , Z-000092019 ! filed as S. aphylla ) .

Notes: ―V.P. Botschantzev described Salsola decussata (using the same diagnosis and the same nomenclatural type!) in the same year in two different journals—first in Botanicheskii Zhurnal 59(1): 39 (January 1974; Botschantzev 1974b) and then in Novosti Sistematiki Vysshykh Rastenii 11: 171 (July 1974; Botschantzev 1974e). The earlier diagnosis has priority.
