Description. Mimetidae are recognized by the following combination of characters: AME placed on a protuberance, cheliceral setae on the mesal side and crossing each other forming an "X", prolateral medial side of the chelicerae with macrosetae projecting forward, chelicerae fused at the base, peg teeth (modified macrosetae on the prolateral distal side of the chelicerae), male palp rotated so the bulb is retrolateral and the cymbium prolateral, presence of a concavity on the distal edge of the tibia where the palp sclerites attach, and the characteristic pattern of macrosetae on tibiae and metatarsi of legs I and II that consist of a row of raptorial macrosetae (spines) intercalated by smaller macrosetae on the prolateral side of tibiae and metatarsi I and II.
