scientific name

Apis cerana himalayana Ruttner, 1992: 296
status

Apis cerana himalayana Ruttner, 1992: 296 ; Hepburn et al., 2001: 6. Nomen nudum.

Apis cerana skorikovi Engel, 1999: 180 .

COMMENTS: Although the names himalaya and himalayana (the latter overlooked in my 1999 treatment) as Latinized epithets are nomina nuda and therefore unavailable, it has not stopped them from being used frequently in the literature (e.g., Hepburn et al., 2001). A validly proposed name is available for this race, i.e., A. cerana skorikovi , and should be used to the exclusion of other subspecific epithets.
