Diagnosis. Frontal vitta black. Palpus yellow, brownish at base. Male with fore femur partly black, and fore tarsomeres without erect setulae or hairs. Female with fore femur black, but yellow in basal quarter or even half. Male wing with a faint small brownish cloud at apex of subcostal vein, absent in female. Male hypopygial prominence large, bifurcate, V-shaped as in Figs 5 and 6 View FIGURES 1–16. 1–4 (see also Pont, 1986b: Fig. 204); trifoliate process with the stalk very long and expanded medially, lateral plates without inner lobe, median piece a little expanded at apex as in Figs 7 and 8 View FIGURES 1–16. 1–4 (see also Pont, 1973c: Fig. 13 View FIGURES 1–16. 1–4 ; Pont, 1986b: Fig. 206). Female tergite 8 and sternite 7 as in Pont (1986b: Figs 209–214); sternite 6 at most 1.5 times as long as broad. See also Pont & Magpayo (1995).

Comments. Originally described from India, the species is widely distributed in the Oriental and Australasian Regions and is one of the most important shoot flies. See Pont (1973c) for biology and morphology, and Pont (1986b) for a redescription and detailed geographic records. The species was recorded from New Caledonia by Pont (1986b) based on one male from Dumbéa.
Distribution. Australia (NSW, NT, Qld), Belau, Bonin Is, Indonesia (Maluku), Lord Howe I., Micronesia, New Caledonia ( New Caledonia, Loyalty Is), PNG (Bismarck Arch., PNG), Tonga, Vanuatu, Volcano I., Western Samoa; Oriental Region.
