Diagnosis. Male holoptic; female with a pair of setae on frontal vitta; arista thickened in basal third, plumose; intraalars 2; dorsocentrals 2+4; prealar present but weak; postalar wall, suprasquamal ridge, prosternum, anepimeron and meron bare; katepisternals 1+2 or 2+2; posterior spiracle bare on margins; vein M curved forward towards vein R 4+5 before apex; vein R 4+5 with a few setulae at base on both wing surfaces; hind tibia without calcar; sternite 1 bare.
Comments. Twenty species are known to occur in the Australasian/Oceanian Regions. Shinonaga et al. (1991) recorded an unidentified species, as Myospila sp. , from New Caledonia. Vockeroth (1972) revised the species from New Guinea and Oceania, and M. propinqua was treated in that paper.
