Graphomya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830: 403 View in CoL . Type-species: Musca maculata Scopoli, 1763 View in CoL , des. Duponchel in d’Orbigny (1845: 305).
Diagnosis. Male holoptic; male eye facets of uniform size and densely haired, less haired in female; arista bare on apical third; dorsocentrals 2+4; katepisternals 0:2; prealar seta present; characteristic brown marks on scutum and abdomen; meron setulose below spiracle and on katepimeron; mid femur on anterodorsal surface with a row of strong setae on basal half, the posterodorsal surface with 2 preapical setae; hind tibia with a median anterodorsal and a submedian anteroventral setae; vein M curved before apex towards R 4+5; vein R 4+5 setulose basally; sternite 1 setulose.
Comments. The genus was first recorded from New Caledonia by Shinonaga et al. (1991). Vockeroth (1972) revised the species from New Guinea and Oceania and G. maculata was treated in that paper.
