Hebecnema Schnabl, 1889: 331 View in CoL (as Aricia View in CoL subgenus). Type species: Anthomyia umbratica Meigen, 1826 , des. Coquillett (1901: 137).
Diagnosis. Arista plumose; anepimeron bare; prosternum bare; presutural acrostichal setulae in 4 more or less regular rows, those in outer rows longer and stronger; dorsocentrals 2+4; prealar seta absent; katepisternals 1+2; vein R 4+5 straight and bare; one well developed proepimeral seta.
Comments. Four species are known to occur in the Australasian/Oceanian Regions ( Pont, 1989): H. gressittti Vockeroth , endemic to the Solomon Is; H. rufula Vockeroth , recorded from New Guinea and Indonesia; H. uniseta Hennig , recorded from Australia and Indonesia; and H. infuscata (Bigot) endemic to New Caledonia. Vockeroth (1972) revised the species from New Guinea and Oceania and H. infuscata was treated in that paper.
