Tabanus regularis Jaennicke, 1866 View in CoL
This species shows high variability in antennae coloration and abdominal pattern ( Moucha & Chvála, 1961; Chvála et al. 1972). Szilády (1923) described a variety rufus with paler brown coloration on the abdomen and completely brownish antenna. The variety rufus was treated by Theodor (1965) and Leclercq (1966) as a subspecies without justification. However, Chvála et al. (1972) considered rufus as a synonym. This form is a Mediterranean species with a wide distribution. It was recorded from Europe, North Africa, Turkey, Iran, Transcaucasia. This species was collected from Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine ( Abbassian-Lintzen 1964; Al-Talafha et al. 2005).
