This species is Palearctic, collected from Afghanistan and Iran ( Chvála et al. 1972). The occurrence of polygonus in the Middle East came from noticeably light brown form, which was identified as Tabanus autumnalis brunnescens Szilády ( Chvála et al. 1972) . This species was recorded from Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates ( Saliba 1977; Walker & Pittaway 1987; Ježek et al. 2017).
