Tabanus autumnalis brunnescens Szilády View in CoL is a brownish variety of the darker European form Tabanus autumnalis Linnaeus View in CoL , which is widely distributed throughout all Europe ( Chvála et al. 1972). In area under investigation, the species was recorded from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine ( Austen 1920; Saliba 1977; Abu El-Hassan et al. 2013).
Tabanus brunnescens autumnalis Szilády View in CoL is a Mediterranean species that inhabits lowlands and hilly areas, not mountains ( Krčmar et al. 2011). Females attack cattle and horses, they are known vectors of several diseases: tularemia, anthrax, and trypanosomiasis ( Anthony 1980).
