Chrysops italicus (Meigen, 1804) View in CoL
Chrysops italicus View in CoL is halophilous species ( Krčmar & Mikuška 2012). The larvae dwell solely in brackish waters ( Chvála et al. 1972). Most specimens collected by Krčmar et al. (2008) were from brackish water. Chrysops italicus View in CoL is a Palearctic species. It is distributed through Mediterranean Basin; Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and through Europe (South and central) to Turkey and Iran ( Chvála et al. 1972). In the Arab countries of the Middle East, the species was recorded from Lebanon only ( Müller et al. 2012b). Chrysops italicus View in CoL and C. buxtoni View in CoL were collected during attempting to attack man ( Müller et al. 2012b). More sampling will increase the chance to collect hamatus View in CoL and italicus View in CoL in the remaining Arab countries of the Middle East.
