Type materials examined. Syntype of Polyphaga everestiana , male (NHM, No. #876175), “ Mt. Everest Exped. / Up to 18.500 ft. / July, 1921. / B. M. 1922-73.”, with a determined label: “ Polyphaga everestiana Chop type male (handwriting)/ L. CHOPARD. det.”. Syntype of Polyphaga everestiana , 1 female ( NHM, No. #876176), same data as the male syntype, with a determined label: “ Polyphaga everestiana Chop type female (handwriting)/ L. CHOPARD. det.” .
Distribution. China (Mount Everest).
Remarks: E. everestiana is the only species of the genus with short tegmina (but still beyond the end of abdomen), this character may derive from the extremely harsh environment they live. According to the original description, the types of the species were found at the elevation up to 18.500ft. (about 5638.8 m) from Mt. Everest, which may be known as the highest elevation for cockroaches to live.
