Type material. Lectotype of unknown sex on separate slide, here designated, labelled: “ INDIA: Uttar Pradesh, Loc: Kansrao Forest, Dehradun dist., Dt: 5.II.1965, Coll: S.K. Mitra, PARATYPE, Hypogastrura unguiculata Mitra, 1966 ” (Slide Nº 499/H-14/ZSI/KOL, kept in the Apterygota Section, Zoological Survey of India ), the only known specimen; the holotype is lost

Redescription. Size. Lectotype of 0.825 mm.

Tegument. Tegumentary granulation coarse, 5–6 granules between p1 chaetae on Abd V. Weak differentiation between microchaetae and macrochaetae; macrochaetae slightly long, ciliated ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 24–26 ).

Head. Tubercles and spines absent. Eyes 8+8. PAO shorter than nearest eye in diameter, composed of 4 lobes, without accessory tubercle, ratio PAO: nearest eye = 0.4–0.5. Labral margin without papillae.

Thorax. Th II with 3 rows of chaetae, 6+ 6 in a row, as a1–6; 5+5 chaetae in m row, as m1, m3–5, m7 as s, m2 and m6 absent; 6+6 chaetae in p row, as p1–6, p4 as s ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 24–26 ). Empodial appendage lance-shaped, with narrow basal lamella. Tibiotarsi with one tenent hair weakly knobbed.

Abdomen. Dorsal chaetotaxy of Abd IV-VI as in Fig. 25 View FIGURES 24–26 . Abd IV with 4+4 chaetae in a row, as a1–4; 5+5 chaetae in m row, as m1, m3 and m5-7; 7+7 chaetae in p row, as p1–7, p5 as s; Abd V with three rows of chaetae, 3+3 chaetae in a row, as a1,2/3,4; 3+3 chaetae in m row, as m1,2,4; 4+4 chaetae in p row, as p1–3 and p5, p3 as s. Abd VI with three rows of chaetae, 2+2 chaetae in a row, 2+2 chaetae in m row and 2+2+1 chaetae in p row (unpaired p0 and p1–2). Ventral tube with 4+4 chaetae. Retinaculum with 4+4 teeth, no chaetae on corpus. Dens posteriorly with coarse granules and 7 chaetae. Mucro with apex straight, broad outer lamella long, straight, without inner lamella, with a small subapical tooth ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 24–26 ). Length ratio of mucro to dens = 1:2.6-2.8. Two short, straight anal spines on Abd VI, slightly bigger than their basal papillae.
