Replaced synonym:— Justicia fittonioides Lindau (1904: 411) , nom. illeg., non J. fittonioides Moore (1878: 134) .

Type:— BRAZIL. Amazon, Acre, Bocca do Tejo, Rio Juruá , April 1901, E. H. G. Ule 5457 (holotype: B destroyed!; lectotype designated here: K barcode K-000529166 [image!]; isotype: CORD barcode CORD-00005108 [image!]) .

During the present study, it was noticed that the specimen (holotype) studied by the original author to describe this species is found to be destroyed during the World War II. However, a photograph of the holotype specimen ( B) is available at FOBN ( FOBN008827 ) apart from the two isotype specimens at CORD (CORD-00005108) and K (K-000529166). After a through scrutiny of literature, a specimen housed at K-000529166 is selected here as the lectotype of the name as it matches well with the description given in the protologue .

Etymology:—The s pecific epithet honours Dr. Volker Bittrich, a Brazilian botanist for his remarkable contribution to the angiosperms flora of Brazil.
