Type material. Holotype. Male. C. Sulawesi, 38 km SE Pendolo vill., 1200 m, 120.46.55E, 2.14.03 S, 10-11 July 2001, Bolm lgt. ( LMBC).

Differential diagnosis. Sulabanus ocularis differs from all congeneric species by the very slender basal part of the phallus. Its large eyes are similar to those found in S. amporiwensis in the S. major group, but S. amporiwensis has yellow and S. ocularis black thoracic ventrites.

Description. Body dark brown to black, elytra with bright transverse yellow patch in humeral third. Head partly hidden by pronotum. Frontal interocular distance 1.02 times eye diameter. Pronotum flat, 1.16 times wider that long. Elytra parallel–sided, 2.94 times longer than width at humeri. Phallus with deeply emarginate apical part and dorsally bent apex, basal part very slender (Figs. 49–50).

Measurements. BL 6.75 mm, HW 1.9 mm, PL 1.05 mm, PW 1.23 mm, Ediam 0.56 mm, Edist 0.57 mm, EL 5.6 mm.

Distribution. Sulawesi, known only from the type locality in the vicinity of Pendolo.

Etymology. The species is named after the large size of its eyes.
