Carineta tetraspila Jacobi 1907: 21 View in CoL . (Callanga, Peru)
REMARKS. Another of the smaller Peruvian Carineta species (body size <17 mm). Carineta tetraspila is testaceous (may be greenish when fresh) with piceous markings in the pronotal sutures and surrounding the mesothoracic sigillae. The male opercula are small and triangular with a rounded apex. The ochraceous ventral abdomen is exhibits a distinct medial piceous stripe. It can be distinguished from C. congrua by the larger body size, the lack of markings in the pronotal fissures, the reduced markings surrounding the lateral sigillae, and the lack of a piceous arch on the abdominal tergites in this species. It can be distinguished from C. cingenda by the complete transverse piceous fascia in the ambient fissure of the pronotum in this species. Finally, C. matura can be distinguished from C. tetraspila by the prothoracic markings meeting on the midline in the ambient fissure and the piceous arch on the dorsal abdominal tergites in that species.
DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported from Peru ( Metcalf 1963c) and a recent expansion of its range into Bolivia ( Sanborn 2019b). Jacobi (1907; 1951) reported the species from Callanga in Peru.
