Genus Guyalna Boulard & Martinelli, 1996 View in CoL View at ENA

Guyalna Boulard & Martinelli 1996: 20 View in CoL .

Type species. Fidicina bonaerensis Berg 1879: 140 View in CoL . ( Argentina)

REMARKS. Like Dorisiana , this genus was erected as part of a taxonomic key ( Boulard & Martinelli 1996). The first complete description was provided in a revision of the genus that was recently published ( Sanborn 2016a). Species of Guyalna can be distinguished from other Peruvian Guyalnina by absence of bright green fore wing basal area and bright red on hnd wing basal area, head width as wide or slightly wider than mesonotum, lack of prominent stylate eyes extending anteriorly, eyes extending slightly beyond the anterior angle of the pronotum, parallel radial and radiomedial crossveins, male opercula that roughly form a right triangle, and timbal covers with rounded anterior apex and ventral margin parallel to long body axis. Dorisiana is the most similar genus to Guyalna but species can be distinguished by a head being as wide or wider than mesonotum, eyes extending slightly beyond lateral edges of pronotum, timbal covers with rounded apex, ventral margin of the timbal cover parallel to long body axis, and lateral lobes of uncus not extending as far as in species of Guyalna ( Sanborn 2016a) .

DISTRIBUTION. Species of the genus are found over much of the Neotropics including references to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela ( Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Boulard & Martinelli 2011; Sanborn 2011a, b; 2013; 2014a; 2016a, b; 2018b; 2019b; 2020a; Sanborn & Maes 2012; Maes et al. 2012; Sanborn & Heath 2014; Gogala et al. 2015; Ruschel 2017).
