Type species.

Chthonopes jaegeri Wunderlich, 2011 from Laos.

The genus was described in 2011 from two species recorded in Laos ( Wunderlich 2011). The type species was known from Bolikhamsay Province from its type locality, Chthonopes cavernicolus Wunderlich, 2011 was recorded from Khammouan Province. Two additional females from Oudomxai Province were preliminary assigned to Chthonopes as well without describing them formally as new species. All spiders were recorded from caves.
