Type Locality: Australia, New South Wales, Port Jackson.
Vernacular Names: Eastern Bettong.
Synonyms: Bettongia formosus (Ogilby 1838) ; Bettongia hunteri (Owen 1841) ; Bettongia lepturus (Quoy and Gaimard 1824) ; Bettongia minimus (Boitard 1841) ; Bettongia phillippi (Ogilby 1838) ; Bettongia setosa Gray 1837 ; Bettongia white (Quoy and Gaimard 1824) ; Bettongia whitei Gray 1841 .
Distribution: Formerly coastal SE Queensland and N New South Wales, south to SW Victoria; now extinct on mainland Australia; survives in Tasmania.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix I; U.S. ESA – Endangered; IUCN – Extinct as B. g. gaimardi , otherwise Lower Risk (nt).
