HOLOTYPE,: TURKEY, Diyarbakõr (Diarbekir), Silvan ( MNHU) (examined) (the photographs of paratypes in Naskrecki and Otte, 1999a show paratypes of P. sinuata . All specimens of the type species of P. kurmana were reported only from Diyarbekir province (Gebirge bei Silvan; Ramme, 1951), whereas specimens of the type series of P. sinuata was reported from Yokarbanassiya (Malatya provinceÐ the location of the specimens which photographs were taken from) and from localities from Nidge province, Ulukysla and Utsch-Kapular Dagh).

Distribution. Endemic for eastern and south-eastern part of Turkey.

Description. Male (holotype). Pronotum in prozona slightly, in metazona distinctly ¯attened, lateral carinae as rounded edges, median carina raised in metazona; 14

at of by tegmina longer than pronotum, rather narrow apically; stridulatory ®le arched, with 44±52 wide teeth (tooth density in the middle of the ®le 30±33 per mm; N 54). Hind femur relatively short, swollen basally. Anal tergite with two triangular processes, roundly incised in the middle and folded above incision, with few setae medially; cerci short, thick, with basely widened strong tooth in apical 1/4. Titillators small, apical arms denticulate on outer and inner margins, basal arms with strong teeth on proximal half, smooth and strongly upcurved in distal half.

Female. VI and VII sternite roundly raised; subgenital plate laterally carinated, lateral sclerite distinct, placed premedially, with an indistinct median sulcus; ovipositor knife-like, upcurved in whole length.

Coloration. Dark dirty brown or blackish. Face dirty brown, a black pattern behind eyes and narrow light stripe in it; disc dark brown or blackish, paranota with black pattern, not fully black, ventral margin reddish brown, caudal margin lighter; hind femur with a dark stripe laterally and with black pattern dorsally near the base; tegmina blackish, with reddish brown veins. Abdominal terga black laterally; ovipositor light in the base, black or brownish black in the rest.

Remarks. This new species is rather similar to P. sinuata Ramme and P. salmani sp. n. It diOEers from these species by the characters given in the key, by measurements, coloration and having more teeth on the stridulatory ®le.

Etymology. Melendis is a high mountain in central Anatolia ( Turkey).
