Genus Spartolus Stål, 1877 View in CoL
Synonyms: Threciscus syn. nov. (type species T. pugionatus ), justified bellow.
Species included: S. minax (Walker, 1871) . S. pugionatus Stål, 1877 and S. tricostatus Bolívar, 1887 , all endemic to the Philippines.
Type species: Spartolus longiceps Stål, 1877 View in CoL (= synonym of Spartolus minax (Walker, 1871) View in CoL , by subsequent designation by Günther (1939).
Justification of the synonymy and updated diagnosis. Tumbrinck & Skejo (2017) reported that genera Threciscus View in CoL and Spartolus View in CoL differ in Threciscus View in CoL lacking foliaceous, modified maxillary palpy. This is incorrect and by detailed inspection we observed that all our specimens have foliaceous apical segments of maxillary palpi. Those segments are not as widened as in other species and as in Ophiotettix View in CoL , but are surely widened. Spartolus pugionatus View in CoL comb. resurr. is thus put back into the genus Spartolus View in CoL , as it has less differences from S. tricostatus View in CoL than S. tricostatus View in CoL has from S. minax View in CoL . Threciscus View in CoL syn. nov. is thus synonymized with Spartolus View in CoL . The genus Spartolus View in CoL is endemic to the Philippines and its members are characterized in (1) narrow scutellum (almost absent), (2) elongated head, (3) colorful appearance with red, yellow and orange colors, (4) absence of wings, (5) presence of widened, foliaceous maxillary palpi and (6) lateral paranotal spines.
