Malacoscylus nearnsi View in CoL sp. nov. ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 3. 1 )

Female. Head with integument dark brown, densely covered by yellow-whitish pubescence on frons and posterior surface to upper lobes of eyes, this stripe continues latero-dorsally on prothorax attaining posterior margin. Occiput and frons finely and very sparsely punctate; frons flat between eyes; upper lobe connected to lower lobe by 1–2 rows of facets at narrowest point; lower lobe as larger as upper lobe, as high as genae below. Antennae slender, reaching elytral apices at antennomere XI. Scape linear slightly dilated at apical third; antennomeres I to IV with dense long hairs on ventral and internal margins, antennomeres V–XI with sparse long hairs.

Prothorax subcylindrical, obtusely protuberant medially, narrower than elytral base. Pronotum with a median longitudinal stripe of shining brownish black integument, each side of median stripe covered with yellow whitish pubescence; minute and sparse punctures restricted to central stripe. A row of punctures along anterior and posterior margins. Prosternal process very narrow, less than one fifth width of procoxae. Mesosternal process separating mesocoxae by about one third width of mesocoxa.

Elytron with lateral carinae from humeri to apex; with orthogonal humerus projecting posterolaterally. Apex transversally truncate, with a minute spine at marginal angle. Surface densely covered by dense and compact brownish pubescence. Humeri without pubescence, integument shining, yellow-whitish. Elytral surface densely punctate. Legs with femora and tibiae sublinear, coxae and ventral surface of femora pale yellow, metafemora extending to second urosternite. Apex of urotergite and urosternite rounded.

Etymology. The species is named as a tribute to our friend Dr. Eugenio H. Nearns for his generosity and contribution to the study of Cerambycidae .

Measurements (mm), female. Total length, 10.1; prothorax length, 1.9; prothorax width, 2.5; elytral length, 7.2; humeral width, 3.7.

Type material. Holotype female. ECUADOR, Morona Santiago: Cord. de Curucu, 6 km E Macas, 1000 m, 7.IX.1981, M. Cooper col. ( BMNH).

Remarks. In the key to South American species of Malacoscylus , by Martins & Galileo (2014b), M. nearnsi sp. nov. can be included in the couplet “1”, orthogonal humeri and distinguished in couplet “7” by the uniformly brownish elytra with the integument of the humeri white-yellowish, all the species included in the couplet “7” have the elytra blackish or orange-yellow.
