Macropsis emeljanovi Dubovskiy, 1966 View in CoL
Figs. 4–6, 45–51
Description. Body form uniformly green to pale yellowish with black pattern. Green specimens dominant in Western populations (in Western Tien Shan Mountains, in Western half of Tadzhikistan), in South-Eastern Kazakhstan both green and yellowish forms can found, in Eastern part of the range (South Siberia, Mongolia, China) only yellowish form with black pattern occurs (Figs. 4–6). Female in external appearance similar to male, but dark pigmentation less strong.
Pygofer rather broad, with thin sinuate processes (Fig. 45). Aedeagus in side view narrow, with more or less developed projection in apical half on the inner margin, gonopore apical (Figs. 46–47). Styles slender, with acute tips (Fig. 48). Connective with a finger-like protrusion in middle, both side arms twisted to dorsum (Figs. 49–50).
7th abdominal sternite in female tapering towards end, in midline about twice as long as 6th one, posterior margin with a deep notch. Ovipositor strongly projecting beyond pygofer, 2nd valvulae with 7–8 additional teeth each (Fig. 51).
FIGURES. 1–18. Leafhoppers of the genus Macropsis , male dorsal (1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16), lateral (2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17) and front (3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18) view. 1–3— M. adusta sp. nov.; 4–6— M. emeljanovi Dubovskiy ; 7–9— M. exteria sp. nov.; 10–12— M. flavida Vilbaste ; 13–15— M. hainanensis sp. nov.; 16–18— M. illota (Horvath) .
Body length (including tegmina): 3, 3.5–4.2 mm; Ƥ, 4.5–4.8 mm.
Host. Seabuckthorn ( Hippophae rhamnoides L.).
Material examined. 3 3, 20 Ƥ, China: Xinjiang province, Urumqi city, 20–26. VIII. 1997, collected by Li Zizhong.
Distribution. China: Xinjiang prov. (new record), Mongolia, Middle Asia, Southern part of Tuva (South Siberia, Russia). Not found on its host plant in other regions of South Siberia (Altai Mts., Southern Buryatia).
Remark. This species has two colour variations: green and brown. Green ones differ from all other Macropsis species in narrow aedeagus, and brown individuals resemble M. mulsanti (Fieber, 1868) , can be distinguished from latter by the shape of discoidal spots which narrow in M. mulsanti but comma shaped in M. emeljanovi , around transverse veins on forewings without brown spots, and black pattern on pronotum and scutellum if present. The species is different from fuscula -group species by the shape of black pattern on face and smaller size. Illustrated description and oscillograms of male calling signals of this species are given in Tishechkin (2002a).
