Diagnosis (male). Hind femur with posteroventral group of setulae near base; right epandrial margin ventral part projected posteriorly; left epandrial process apically pointed.

Material examined. Holotype, ♂, COLOMBIA: Magdalena : PNN Tayrona: Canaveral , 11.33ºN 74.03ºW, 15.xii–2.i.2001, Malaise trap, 30m, R. Henriquez col. ( IAVH). Paratypes: COLOMBIA: 1♂, Magdalena : PNN Tayrona: Cerro San Lucas, 11.33ºN 74.03ºW, 19–24.vii.2002, Malaise trap, 700m, M. Sharkey col. ( LACM); 1♂, Magdalena : PNN Tayrona: Pueblito , 11.27ºN 74.22ºW, 31.i–21.ii.2001, Malaise trap, 225m, R. Henriquez col. Description. Male. Body length, 2.0– 2.4 mm. Head. Frons dark brown, except yellow ventral area, pubescent, without median furrow. Ventral fronto-orbital setae close to the eye margin, ventral interfrontal setae about midway between eye margin and frons midline. Flagellomere 1 light brown, pubescent, oval. Arista pre-apical, pubescent. Palpus yellowish-brown. Thorax. Scutum and pleural regions yellowish-brown ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5 – 9 ); anepisternum dorsally setulose; scutellum dark brown. Legs yellowish-brown, hind femur brown at apex. Foretibia with one dorsal seta at basal quarter and anterodorsal row of strong setae. Midtibia with two basal transverse combs of setae, one anterodorsal and two posterodorsal setae and 2–3 small posterodorsal setae between the two large ones. Hind femur swollen (height/length ratio: 0.5) with postero-ventral group of setulae near base ( Figs. 35–36 View FIGURES 31 – 38 ). Hind tibia with one anterodorsal and 4–5 posterodorsal setae and 12–13 transversal combs of setae. Wing. ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 23 – 30 ) Costa 0.4 of the wing length, R2+3 vestigial, other characteristics as described for the genus. Halter yellowish-brown. Abdomen. Tergites dark brown. T1–T5 with yellow median and posterior regions. Hypopygium light yellow ( Figs. 55–58 View FIGURES 55 – 58 ). Left epandrial process very large, ventrally concave, with two apical points and subepandrial apically setose process. Right epandrial margin ventral part projected posteriorly. Hypandrium bilobed, laterally microtrichose. Hypoproct with two setae.

Female. Unknown.

Geographic distribution. North of Colombia to Costa Rica ( Fig. 72 View FIGURE 72 ).

Etymology. The name magdalena refers to the type locality of this species and should be considered a noun in apposition.
