Legs ( Figs. 15-18 View FIGURES 15 – 18 ). Legs about half length of body. Setal formulae of leg segments as follows (solenidia, in parenthesis): coxae 2 + (1ε p) - 2 - 2 - 2; trochanters 1 - 1 - 2 - 1; femora 6 - 5 - 3 - 2, genua 3 + 1ĸ - 2 - 0 - 1; tibiae 5 + 1φρ + 1φ - 5 + 1φρ - 5 + 1φρ - 5 + 1φρ; tarsi 13 + 1ω - 8 + 1ω - 7 + 1ω - 7 + 1ω. Length of solenidia: I ω 17– 19, II ω 13–16, III ω 11–12, IV ω 8–9. Coxa I contains supracoxal spine-like seta 1ε p 3-4 long.

Remarks. The Iranian specimens exhibit most of the characters of the original description of Stigmaeus longipilis (Canestrini) . However, the following differences were observed: length of solenidion on tarsus I (ω) 17–19 [in Utah ( USA) specimens 12]; prodorsal shield almost oblong but triangular in Russian specimens; seta c2 longer than Russian specimens, ratio c1/c2 0.21–0.25 in Iranian specimens versus 0.29 in Russian specimens. Ratio: ve/sci 11.41–11.91 in Iranian specimens versus 10.4 in the original description and 11.2 in the Turkish specimens.

Distribution. This species is recorded from Turkey ( Koç & Ayyilldiz 1997), Italy ( Berlese 1910; Wood 1973), USA ( Summers 1962), Germany ( Oudemans 1927), Ukraine (Kuznetsov 1978).

Material examined. Two females were collected from soil under hazelnut trees ( Corylus avellana L.) [Betulataceae], vicinities of Ardabil city, Ardabil province Iran (38° 14' 57" N, 48° 18' 5" E, 1263 m a.s.l.); 2 August, 2010; by M. Pahlevani.
