Descriptive notes. Head-body 435-450 mm,tail 30-40 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. The Coiban Agouti is similar in size to the Central American Agouti ( D. punctata ), differing mainly in characteristics of their skulls. The Coiban Agouti is uniformly yellowbrown, grizzled with black on dorsum and pale below.
Habitat. Mainly deciduous forested regions.

Coiba Island is part of Coiba National Park and a World Heritage Site of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, which afford some protection to the Coiban Agouti .
