Distribution: Honduras to Sinaloa ( Mexico) and through Texas to Florida and New Jersey ( USA); Cuba.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Dasypterus . Includes floridanus; see Hall and Jones (1961) and Morales and Bickham (1995). Does not include insularis ; see Silva-Taboada (1976) and Morales and Bickham (1995). See Webster et al. (1980), but note that their account included insularis .
