Material examined. Thailand: Kanchanaburi, near Erawan Waterfall , in home garden at night (14°20'N, 99°8'E), 1–3.vi.1988, leg. S. Ingrisch— 1 female (holotype) (Bonn ZFMK) GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis. The new species is striking for its striped appearance: pronotum dark brown, meso- and metathorax very light, and first abdominal segments nearly black, and for the ornamental striation on the hind femora. P. striatus shares with Papuoneanias the low number (3) of spines on ventral side of pro- and mid-tibiae and the absence of a ventral pre-apical spine on hind tibiae. It differs by the complete absence of wings and the spines on fore- and mid-tibiae are rather short while long in Papuoneanias .

Description. Head: Face robust, little wider than pronotum; fastigium verticis much wider than scapus; medium and lateral ocelli small but distinct ( Fig. 98C View FIGURE 98 ). Abdominal tergites two and three each with two rows of stridulatory pegs (5, 4; 9, 10; N = 1; Fig. 98D View FIGURE 98 ). Wings absent ( Fig. 98A View FIGURE 98 ).

Legs: Fore coxa with small spine at fore margin; fore and mid femora unarmed; fore and mid tibiae with 3 pairs (on mid tibiae 2 or 3 pairs) of not very large ventral spines and 1 pair of smaller ventral spurs; hind femur with few (3–5) spines in posterior area of both ventral margins; hind tibia with spines on both dorsal margins, ventral margins unarmed, with 3 apical spurs on both sides.

Coloration. General color brown. Face medium brown, vertex light brown, genae blackish brown. Pronotum disc anteriorly and in center light brown, hind margin and paranota blackish brown; meso- and metanotum light brown; abdominal tergites blackish brown, getting lighter along midline behind second tergite; legs light brown with some diffuse darker marks; hind femur on external side with blackish striation.

Male unknown.

Female. Seventh abdominal sternite little wider than long with a small v-shaped excision from base followed by a narrow black carina that reaches to about apical third of sternite, apical margin slightly angularly projecting and from tip of angle with a sclerotised inverse-triangular projection with rounded angles and truncate tip embedded in the intersegmental membrane ( Fig. 98G View FIGURE 98 ). The subgenital plate that follows hardly stiffened, membranous, with disc wider than long, rounded on both sides with broadly convex apical margin ( Figs. 98 View FIGURE 98 E–G). Ovipositor straight but behind base with a bend, nearly twice as long as hind femur; tip narrowly obtuse ( Fig. 98B View FIGURE 98 ).

Measurements (1 female).—body w/o wings: 20; pronotum: 4; tegmen: 0; hind femur: 9.5; ovipositor: 15.5 mm.

Etymology. The new species is named for the ornamental striation of the hind femora; from Latin striatus (striped).
