Diagnosis. This is a well-characterized species and one of three species with a maculate explanate elytral margin. Dorynota monoceros has spots on the underside of the explanate margin, while the other two species have them on the upper surface. Dorynota monneorum differs in the escutcheon body shape and absence of a humeral carina. Externally, D. rileyi is also similar to D. wappesi , which differs in having the explanate elytral margin uniformly yellow.
