Etymology. The specific name is a Latin substantive referring to its similarity to Clubiona quebecana Dondale & Redner, 1976 , being a combination of the preposition sub (near) and the epithet of that species.

Diagnosis. Males of Clubiona subquebecana sp. nov. resemble those of C. quebecana ( Dondale & Redner 1976: 1157, figs 1–4) in having similarly shaped bulb with tanglesome sperm duct, but differ by: (1) retrolateral tibial apophysis with blunt tip ( Fig. 15B View FIGURE 15 ) (apically pointed in C. quebecana ); (2) tip of embolus extending approximately four-fifth length of tegulum ( Figs 15B View FIGURE 15 , D–E) (relatively shorter tip in C. quebecana ). Females resemble those of C. quebecana in having both spermathecae and bursae globular, the latter smaller than the former, but can be recognized by the copulatory ducts running parallelly in ventral view ( Figs 16 View FIGURE 16 A–B) (copulatory ducts descending obliquely in C. quebecana ).

Description. Male (holotype): Total length 2.98; prosoma 1.26 long, 0.90 wide; opisthosoma 1.63 long, 0.84 wide. Prosoma ( Figs 16 View FIGURE 16 E–F), oval, ocular area distinctly narrowed, widest between coxae II and III, in profile almost flat; integument smooth, clothed with short fine hairs. Carapace yellow except reddish ocular area, without distinct colour pattern. Chelicerae protruding brown, with three promarginal and four retromarginal teeth. Labium and endites colored as chelicerae, longer than wide. Sternum yellow. Eyes: in dorsal view, anterior eye row almost straight, posterior eye row slightly recurved, PER wider than AER. AME dark, other eyes light; with black rings. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.06, ALE 0.05, PME 0.05, PLE 0.06, AME–AME 0.02, AME–ALE 0.06, PME–PME 0.17, PME–PLE 0.06, MOQL 0.10, MOQA 0.19, MOQP 0.28. Legs yellowish, without distinct color markings. Leg formula: IV, II, I, III; leg measurements: I 2.36 (0.69, 0.41, 0.61, 0.43, 0.22), II 2.54 (0.73, 0.35, 0.59, 0.62, 0.23), III 1.84 (0.58, 0.30, 0.36, 0.46, 0.14), IV 2.68 (0.81, 0.40, 0.74, 0.46, 0.27). Opisthosoma ( Figs 16 View FIGURE 16 E–F) lanceolate, yellowish-white, dorsum without color marking; venter white; all spinnerets without distinct color marking. Palp ( Figs 15 View FIGURE 15 A–E): tibia short, with single retrolateral apophysis, RTA thumb-like, small with blunt tip; genital bulb elongated, sperm duct sinuous; tegular hump indistinct and membranous, fusing with conductor; embolic base smooth, represented by a large sclerite, inserted at approximately 11 o’clock of tegulum; embolus distinctly long, flagelliform, slender, bent 90 degrees ventrally and angled across tegular apex, stretched proximally on groovelike conductor, extending basad more than three-fourths length of tegulum, terminating at approximately four o’clock position; conductor area relatively large, for approximately four-fifths the length of tegulum.

Female (paratype IZCAS Ar 34687): Total length 3.06; prosoma 1.09 long, 0.80 wide; opisthosoma 1.83 long, 1.12 wide. Not strikingly different from males but slightly darker in color ( Figs 16 View FIGURE 16 G–H). Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.06, ALE 0.04, PME 0.08, PLE 0.05, AME–AME 0.04, AME–ALE 0.05, PME–PME 0.16, PME–PLE 0.03, MOQL 0.10, MOQA 0.15, MOQP 0.30. Leg formula: IV, II, I, III; leg measurements: I 1.70 (0.50, 0.29, 0.41, 0.31, 0.18), II 1.92 (0.56, 0.28, 0.54, 0.34, 0.20), III 1.51 (0.48, 0.25, 0.29, 0.34, 0.17), IV 2.11 (0.65, 0.26, 0.52, 0.47, 0.21). Epigyne ( Figs 16 View FIGURE 16 A–D): Epigynal plate longer than wide, posterior margin heavily sclerotized; concaved posterior medially; spermathecae and copulatory ducts are prominently through epigynal plate in ventral view; two copulatory openings distinctive and large, located at posterior portion of epigynal plate; hyaline copulatory ducts thick and straight, close together, extending to anterior level of spermathecae, then retracing poteriorly to midlength of epigyne, connected laterally to bursae; spermathecae subglobular, situated anteriorly; bursae globular, much smaller than spermathecae; fertilization ducts acicular, membranous, located on lateral surface of spermathecae.
