Etymology. The species epithet is taken from the Latin adjective “ quadratus ” and refers to the subquadrate tegular hump.
Diagnosis. Males of Clubiona quadrata sp. nov. can be easily distinguished from those of other members of the C. hystrix group by the distinctly long embolus and the subquadrate tegular hump ( Figs 7 View FIGURE 7 A–E). The females appear to be closely related to those of C. papuana Chrysanthus, 1967 ( Chrysanthus 1967: 413, figs 21, 28–29) in having similarly convoluted copulatory ducts, but differs by: (1) epigynal plate with two diagonal ridges ( Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 A– B) (ridge absent in C. papuana ); (2) the course of the copulatory ducts longer and more complex. ( Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 C–D).
Description. Male (holotype): Total length 2.61; prosoma 1.29 long, 0.84 wide; opisthosoma 1.26 long, 0.71 wide. Prosoma ( Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 E–F), oval, pars cephalica slightly narrowed, widest between coxae II and III, in profile slightly higher just behind ocular region, gradually sloping posteriorly; integument smooth, clothed with short fine hairs. Carapace light orange, without distinct color pattern; longitudinal fovea reddish. Chelicerae coloured as carapace, both margins with four teeth. Labium and endites yellowish-orange, longer than wide. Sternum yellowish. Eyes: both anterior and posterior eye rows recurved in dorsal view; AME dark, other eyes light; with black rings. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.06, ALE 0.06, PME 0.07, PLE 0.06, AME–AME 0.04, AME– ALE 0.02, PME–PME 0.12, PME–PLE 0.05, MOQL 0.16, MOQA 0.15, MOQP 0.24. Legs yellowish, without distinct color marking. Leg formula: IV, II, I, III; leg measurements: I 5.02 (1.53, 0.73, 1.53, 0.75, 0.49), II 5.59 (1.65, 0.76, 1.63, 0.99, 0.54), III 4.75 (1.57, 0.53, 1.07, 1.06, 0.52), IV 7.54 (2.26, 0.52, 3.32, 1.59, 0.85). Opisthosoma ( Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 E–F) elongate-oval, dorsally with a pairs of muscular depressions; with conspicuous anterior hair tufts; venter and spinnerets light yellow. Palp ( Figs 7 View FIGURE 7 A–E): tibia short, only with retrolateral apophysis, RTA small, with a triangular base and a hair-like tip; genital bulb elongated, with relatively flat tegulum, sperm duct distinctive, U-shaped; tegulum distinctly longer than wide, apex with a subquadrate tegular hump, base with a blunt flange; embolus distinctly long, slender, basal portion wide, originating from retrolateral side of tegulum, apex filiform, terminating at approximately five o’clock position relative to tegulum.
Female (paratype IZCAS Ar 34571): Total length 3.63; prosoma 1.60 long, 1.43 wide; opisthosoma 1.18 long, 1.96 wide. Not strikingly different from males but darker in color ( Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 G–H). Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.08, ALE 0.07, PME 0.09, PLE 0.07, AME–AME 0.07, AME–ALE 0.03, PME–PME 0.20, PME–PLE 0.05, MOQL 0.21, MOQA 0.18, MOQP 0.34. Legs yellowish, without distinct color marking. Leg formula: IV, I, II, III; leg measurements: I 2.86 (0.76, 0.56, 0.77, 0.53, 0.24), II 0.58 (0.66, 0.42, 0.77, 0.51, 0.21), III 2.12 (0.53, 0.34, 0.49, 0.43, 0.34), IV 4.01 (1.14, 0.45, 0.91, 0.91, 0.60). Epigyne ( Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 A–D): Epigynal plate longer than wide, through which spermathecae and copulatory ducts well visible, posterior margin not rebordered; atrium absent; two copulatory openings small, contiguous, situated at medial portion of epigynal plate posterior margin, hidden in two diagonal ridges in ventral view; copulatory ducts strongly entwined, ascending dorsally and descending ventrally two times, respectively, forming two longitudinal loops and then connected to lateral spermathecae; both spermathecae and bursae globular, the former anteriad and smaller than the latter; bursae translucent with smooth surface; fertilization ducts acicular, membranous, located on dorsal-lateral surface of spermathecae.
Distribution. Presently known only from the type locality.
