Etymology. The specific name is a Latin substantive referring to its similarity to Clubiona kuu Jäger & Dankittipakul, 2010 , being a combination of the preposition sub (near) and the epithet of that species.

Diagnosis. Males of Clubiona subkuu sp. nov. resemble those of C. kuu ( Jäger & Dankittipakul 2010: 35, figs 46–51, 57–60, 72) in having similarly shaped embolus, tegular hump and retrolateral tibial apophysis with a spinelike tip, but differ by: (1) base of retrolateral tibial apophysis point dorsally ( Fig. 9B View FIGURE 9 ) (point ventrally in C. kuu ); (2) distinctly prominent tegular hump ( Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 C–E) (relatively smaller in C. kuu ); (3) number and arrangement of cheliceral teeth, namely four anterior with the distal one separated, three posterior teeth in a straight row (five anterior and three posterior teeth with the distal two anterior and the distal posterior separated in C. kuu ). The females are similar to those of C. bipinnata Yu, Zhang & Chen, 2017 ( Yu et al. 2017a: 692, figs 1–5), C. damirkovaci Deeleman-Reinhold, 2001 ( Deeleman-Reinhold 2001: 107, figs 12–23), C. ericius Chrysanthus, 1967 ( Chrysanthus 1967: 409, figs 24–25), and C. oceanica Ono, 2011 ( Ono 2011: 22, figs 25–27) by the general shape of vulva and epigynal plate with two transverse ridges, but can be recognized by the more or less blade-shaped ridges ( Figs 10 View FIGURE 10 A–B) (feather-shaped in C. bipinnata and C. oceanica , comma-shaped in C. damirkovaci and C. ericius ).

Description. Male (holotype): Total length 3.80; prosoma 1.67 long, 1.30 wide; opisthosoma 2.25 long, 1.15 wide. Prosoma ( Figs 10 View FIGURE 10 E–F), ovoid in dorsal view, ocular region distinctly narrowed, widest between coxae II and III; in profile, slightly higher between ocular area and longitudinal fovea, gradually sloping towards pars cephalica; integument smooth, clothed with short fine hairs. Carapace red-brown, without distinct color pattern; fovea dark. Chelicerae protruding and coloured as carapace, with four promarginal and three retromarginal teeth. Labium and endites orange, longer than wide. Sternum yellowish. Eyes: AER slightly recurved, PER wider than AER and slightly procurved in dorsal view. AME dark, other eyes light; with black rings. Palp ( Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 A–E): tibia short, with single retrolateral apophysis, RTA small, with thumb-like base and spine-like tip; genital bulb elongated, tegulum relatively flat, sperm duct distinctive, U-shaped; tegular hump distinctly prominent; embolus arising prolatero-distally from tegulum, basal portion wide, gradually tapering toward filiform apex.

Female (paratype IZCAS Ar 34605): Total length 3.71; prosoma 1.63 long, 1.35 wide; opisthosoma 2.03 long, 1.24 wide.
