Vernacular Names: Dark Flying Fox.

Synonyms: Pteropus collaris Illiger 1815 ; Pteropus fuscus Desmarest 1803 ; Pteropus ruber E. Geoffroy 1803 ; Pteropus rubidum Daudin 1802 ; Pteropus rubricollis E. Geoffroy 1810 ; Pteropus vulgaris Temminck 1837 .

Distribution: Réunion and Mauritius Isls (Mascarene Isls).

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II. IUCN / SSC Action Plan (1992) and IUCN 2003 – Extinct.

Discussion: subniger species group. Reviewed by Bergmans (1990). Probably extinct, see Cheke and Dahl (1981).
