Pyrgoma sinica ( Ren, 1986)

Nobia sinica Ren, 1986: 148 (in Chinese), 157 (in English), pl. 5, ®gures 5±9, 26; Ogawa and Matsuzaki, 1992: 95 (host coral).

Diagnosis. Wall with 21±25 radial ribs; articular furrow of scutum narrow, deep; limbus adductoru m about one-third overall height; tergum exceptionally broad, external furrow closed at distal end, spur tapering to narrow blunt point, depressor muscle crests large, complex, numerous, extending well beyond basal margin.

Type locality and host. OV Ling-shui, Hai-nan Tao (= Hainandao), South China Sea, 18ss45¾N, 110ss45¾E, 98 m, Tang Zhican coll., 5 April 1959, on Dendrophyllia sp .

Type depository. Institute of Oceanology , Academia Sinica, Qingdao (= Tsingtao), China, cat. no. C81214-1 (holotype) .

Remarks. Ren (1986: 157) described the opercular plates as being`... fused together, but with distinct limits’. We infer they are only bound together by an organic cement and thus separable. The height to width ratio, based on Ren’s (1986) illustration is about 1.85 1.

The two paratype specimens of this species we have been fortunate to study lack opercular plates and the soft parts. Nonetheless, our study of the basis corroborates the presence of the calcareous arch-like structures mentioned and illustrated by Ren (1986), which characterize members of this as well as the following genus.
