Remarks
Sciara protoberidis is an insect body of 1.83 mm in length through tergite 5, 2.23 mm to the end of what may be the terminalia. Head not elongate. Wing length, 1.87 mm (left) and 1.71 mm (right), width 0.63 mm. No macrotrichia visible on any of the veins. Right wing R 1 and R 4+5 1.16 mm and 1.5 mm in length, respectively (7:9). Fork of M 0.73 mm in length, maximum width twice that at the wing’s margin, as figured by Cockerell; stem of M not preserved, at most as long as fork, probably shorter. There are no morphological characters present that distinguish this specimen from the many genera of the family or the families within Sciaroidea. We assign S. protoberidis to Sciaroidea incertae sedis.
