Material examined. JAPAN: Iriomote Island , Funeuki, holotype male, 03.vii.1999, light trap, H. Suzuki ( NMST Type slide no. 385.62, # 5-3-2) .

Diagnostic characters. The species differs from all members of the subgenus by the very peculiar shape of the superior volsella, which is short and bulging with a broad protrusion medially.

Male (n = 1)

Wing length 1.16 mm. Wing length / length of profemur 1.99. Thorax brown at postnotum, antepronotum, preepisternum, and scutum; abdominal segments pale brown; femur, tibia, and tarsi pale brown.

Head. AR 1.06. Ultimate flagellomere 428 µm long. Temporal setae 8 including 3 inner verticals, 4 outer verticals, and 1 postorbital. Clypeus with 18 setae. Tentorium 111 µm long, 8 µm wide at posterior tentorial pit. Stipes 130 µm long. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 31, 35, 89, 105, fifth palpomere lacking. Third palpomere with 2 sensilla clavata.

Thorax. Acrostichals 11, dorsocentrals 16, prealars 4. Scutellum with 10 setae.

Wing. Anal lobe moderately developed. VR 1.22. Brachiolum with 1 seta. R with 14, R 1 with 14, R 4+5 with 25, Cu with 2 setae. Wing membrane bare. Squama with 9 setae.

Legs. Scale on foretibia 23 µm long. Spurs on midtibia 35 µm long; on hind tibia 41 µm long. Comb on midtibia 16 µm long; combs on hind tibia 25 µm and 14 µm long. Width at apex of foretibia 41 µm; of midtibia 42 µm; of hind tibia 47 µm. Length and proportions of legs as in Table 60.

Hypopygium. Tergite IX not discernible, laterosternite IX with 4 setae. Anal point 55 µm long, 23 µm wide at base, 5 µm wide at apex. Transverse sternapodeme 12 µm long; phallapodeme 69 µm long. Gonocoxite 133 µm long. Superior volsella 51 µm long, stout, with 42 µm long protrusion bearing several setae, covered with microtrichia. Inferior volsella 82 µm long, nearly parallel-sided, with 1 prominent apical seta. Gonostylus 121 µm long. HR 1.10.

Distribution. Known only from Japan.
