( Figs 14A–D)

Pentapedilum daitokeleum Sasa et Suzuki, 2002: 74 View in CoL .

Material examined. JAPAN: Minamidaito Island , Okinawa, holotype male, 28.iii.2001, H. Suzuki ( NMST Type No. 412:36) .

Diagnostic characters. Among species with strongly haired wing membrane, uniformly colored abdomen, no spur on foretibial scale, and base of superior volsella without microtrichia P. (Pe.) daitokeleum can be distinguished by having the fourth tarsomere of the foreleg longer than the third, mid and hind tibia each with two combs, AR about 0.90, and the gonostylus conspicuously small.

Male (n = 1)

Wing length 1.16 mm. Wing length / length of profemur 2.19. Thorax pale with darker postnotum, scutum and antepronotum; abdominal segments, femur, tibia and tarsi dark brown.

Head. AR 0.85. Ultimate flagellomere 327 µm long. Temporal setae 8, including 4 inner verticals, 4 outer verticals, and 1 postorbital. Clypeus with 34 setae. Tentorium 115 µm long, 6 µm wide at posterior tentorial pit. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 30, 32, 103, 92, 147. Fifth palpomere / third palpomere 1.42. Third palpomere with 2 sensilla clavata.

Thorax. Acrostichals 17, dorsocentrals 23, prealars 7. Scutellum with 8 setae.

Wing. Anal lobe developed. VR 1.31. Brachiolum with 2, RM with 2 setae. Wing membrane with numerous macrotrichia, obscuring the veins. Squama damaged, with 2–3 setae according to Sasa and Suzuki (2002).

Legs. Scale on foretibia ( Fig. 14B) 14 µm long, rounded, without spur. Spurs on midtibia 48 µm long, on hind tibia 50 µm long. Combs on midtibia 16 µm and 18 µm long, on hind tibia 16 µm and 19 µm long. Width at apex of foretibia 41 µm, of midtibia 41 µm, of hind tibia 44 µm. Length and proportions of legs as in Table 14.

Hypopygium ( Fig. 14A). Tergite IX with 7 median setae, laterosternite IX with 2 setae. Anal point 40 µm long, 6 µm wide at base, nearly parallel-sided, 3 µm wide at apex. Transverse sternapodeme 28 µm long. Gonocoxite 123 µm long. Superior volsella ( Fig. 14C) 57 µm long, base bare with 3 inner setae, projection with 1 dorsolateral seta. Inferior volsella ( Fig. 14D) 69 µm long; slightly swollen subapically or parallelsided, with prominent apical seta. Gonostylus 85 µm long. HR 1.50.
