Polypedilum (Pentapedilum) tusimafegeum (Sasa et Suzuki) View in CoL comb. n.
( Fig. 15J)
Pentapedilum tusimafegeum Sasa et Suzuki, 1999: 7 View in CoL .
Material examined. JAPAN: Tsushima Island , 1 male, 25.iii.1998, sweep net, H. Suzuki ( NMST No. 374: 56; # 13-2-15)
Diagnostic characters. Among species with numerous setae on the wing membrane, uniformly colored abdomen, foretibial scale without spur, base of superior volsella without microtrichia and with 4–5 inner setae, the species can be distinguished by the L-shaped projection of the superior volsella with the lateral seta placed medially and by the V-shaped basal ridge on the anal point. The species is similar to P. (Pe.) hirtiforceps , but that species lacks the V-shaped ridge on the anal point and has 18 median setae on tergite IX as opposed to 11 in P. (Pe.) tusimafegeum.
Male (n = 1)
Wing length 2.05 mm. Wing length / length of profemur 2.42. Thorax completely brown; abdomen pale brown; femur, tibia,. and tarsi pale brown.
Head. AR 1.46. Ultimate flagellomere 673 µm long. Temporal setae 9. Clypeus with 11 setae. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 42, 49, 114, 130, 214. Fifth palpomere / third palpomere 1.88. Third palpomere with 2 sensilla clavata.
Thorax. Acrostichals 10, dorsocentrals 17, prealars 5. Scutellum with 9 setae.
Wing. Anal lobe well developed. VR 1.13. Brachiolum with 1 seta; R with 34, R 1 with 27, R 4+5 with 60 setae. Wing covered with numerous macrotrichia. Squama damaged, with 6–8 setae according to Sasa and Suzuki (1999).
Legs. Scale on foretibia 35 µm long, rounded, without apical spur. Spurs on midtibia 51 µm long, on hind tibia 63 µm long. Comb on midtibia 22 µm long, combs on hind tibia 27 µm and 23 µm long. Width at apex of foretibia 58 µm, of midtibia 61 µm, of hind tibia 70 µm. Length and proportions of legs as in Table 51.
Hypopygium. Tergite IX with 11 median setae, laterosternite IX with 2 setae. Anal point slender, 63 µm long, 14 µm wide at base, parallel-sided, 7 µm wide at apex. Transverse sternapodeme 47 µm long; phallapodeme 63 µm long. Gonocoxite 163 µm long. Superior volsella ( Fig. 15J) 72 µm long, base without macrotrichia, with 4 inner setae; projection with 1 dorsolateral seta. Inferior volsella 100 µm long, parallel-sided, with prominent apical seta. Gonostylus broad, 163 µm long. HR 1.00.
