Material examined. JAPAN: Toyama Prefecture, Toyama, Family Park , Lake A, holotype male, 23.vi.1993, M. Sasa ( NMST Type No. 272: 14) .
Diagnostic characters. The species differs from other species of the subgenus, except P. (Pe.) fanjingense , by the low antennal ratio (0.3–0.4) combined with a broad anal point, with median furrow reaching apex. It differs from P. (Pe.) fanjingense by lacking a spur on the foretibial scale.
Male (n = 1)
Wing length 1.73 mm. Wing length / length of profemur 2.19. Pale brown.
Head. AR 0.33. Ultimate flagellomere 191 µm. Temporal setae 15. Clypeus with 26 setae. Tentorium 140 µm long. Stipes 151 µm long. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 44, 40, 93, 127, 175. Fifth palpomere / third palpomere 1.88.
Thorax. Acrostichals 22, dorsocentrals 30, prealars 7. Scutellum with 12 setae.
Wing. Anal lobe developed. VR 1.19. Brachiolum with 3 setae, Sc with 21 setae, R with 40, R 1 with 34, R 4+5 with 93, M with 14, RM with 4, M 1+2 with 81, M 3+4 with 38, Cu with 44, Cu 1 with 24, PCu with 55, An with 33 setae. Cells r 4+5, m 1+2, m 3+4, cell m basal of RM, cu plus an each with numerous macrotrichia. Squama lost; with 10–16 setae according to Sasa (1996).
Legs. Scale on foretibia 58 µm long, triangular, without apical spur. Spurs on midtibia 73 µm long, on hind tibia 65 µm long. Comb on midtibia 28 µm long, combs on hind tibia 33 µm and 30 µm long. Width at apex of foretibia 64 µm, of midtibia 63 µm, of hind tibia 70 µm. Length and proportions of legs as in Table 45.
Hypopygium. Tergite IX with 20 median setae, laterosternite IX with 3 setae. Anal point parallel-sided, not measurable. Transverse sternapodeme 37 µm long; phallapodeme 73 µm long. Gonocoxite 163 µm long. Superior volsella ( Fig. 15H) slender, 70 µm long; base with few microtrichia and 3 inner setae, projection with pointed apex, with dorsolateral seta. Inferior volsella 84 µm long, parallel-sided and slender, with prominent apical seta. Gonostylus 139 µm long. HR 1.18.
Distribution. Known only from Japan.
