Polypedilum (Pentapedilum) paraconvexum Zhang et Wang, 2005: 4 View in CoL .
Material examined. CHINA: Tibet, Xiachayu County, Dongqiong , 1700 m a.s.l., holotype male, 24.v.1988, light trap, C. Deng ( NU No. 05161) .
Diagnostic characters. The broad anal point ( convexum group) combined with the vestigial projection of the superior volsella separate the species from all other species of the subgenus.
Male (n = 1)
Total length 2.65 mm. Wing length 1.77 mm. Total length / wing length 1.50. Wing length / length of profemur 2.21. Thorax yellowish brown with dark brown postnotum, vittae and preepisternum; abdomen yellowish brown; femur, tibia and tarsi brown.
Head. AR 1.04. Ultimate flagellomere 503 µm long. Temporal setae 10 including 3 inner verticals, 5 outer verticals, and 2 postorbitals. Clypeus with 22 setae. Tentorium 137 µm long, 7 µm wide at posterior tentorial pit. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 34, 42, 112, 128, 221. Fifth palpomere / third palpomere 1.98.
Thorax. Acrostichals 13, dorsocentrals 13, prealars 4. Scutellum with 7 setae.
Wing. Anal lobe moderately reduced. VR 1.21. Brachiolum with 2 seta, Sc with 6, R with 35, R 1 with 23, R 4+5 with 64, M with 11, RM with 2, M 1+2 with 63, M 3+4 with 38, Cu with 26, Cu 1 with 18, PCu with 48, An with 33 setae. Cells with more than 100 macrotrichia. Squama with 6 setae.
Legs. Scale on foretibia including spur 49 µm long. Spurs on midtibia 75 µm long, on hind tibia 77 µm long. Comb on midtibia 26 µm long, combs on hind tibia 28 µm and 23 µm long. Width at apex of foretibia 47 µm, of midtibia 49 µm, of hind tibia 54 µm. Length and proportions of legs as in Table 33.
Hypopygium ( Fig. 28A). Tergite IX with 12 median setae, laterosternite IX with 2 setae. Anal point 39 µm long, 68 µm wide at base, 47 µm wide at apex. Transverse sternapodeme 44 µm long; phallapodeme 96 µm long. Gonocoxite 151 µm long. Superior volsella ( Fig. 28B) 29 µm long, base with microtrichia and 5 inner setae, projection with 1 long apical seta. Inferior volsella 91 µm long, parallel-sided, with 1 prominent apical seta. Gonostylus 121 µm long. HR 1.25; HV 2.19.
Distribution. Known only from Tibet, China.
